La 28è édition des MTV Video Music Awards aura lieu à Los Angeles à 4h, dans la nuit du 28 au 29 août 2011. La liste des nommés est d'ores et déjà connue, dans les 14 catégories choisies. Katy Perry est largement en tête avec 9 nominations, dont la Vidéo de l'année et le Meilleur clip d'un artiste féminin, pour son hit explosif Firework, le Meilleur clip pop pour Last Friday Night (T.G.I.F.), les Meilleurs effets spéciaux pour sno tube international E.T., feat. Kanye West.

Après une année extraordinaire et le succès de 21 - plus grosse vente d'album jusqu'à présent - Adele obtient 7 nominations pour son hit très soul Rolling In the Deep. Kanye West mène le bal des artistes masculins avec 7 nominations pour sa collaboration avec Katy Perry, ainsi que pour ses clips All of The Lights et Power.

Des artistes accomplis (Beyoncé, Eminem, Lady Gaga, Nicki Minaj, 30 Seconds To Mars, Beastie Boys, Chris Brown, Pitbull, Lil Wayne), mais également de nouvelles têtes viennent renouveler l epalmarès dont Bruno Mars, Tyler, The Creator, Foster the People et Manchester Orchestra, en quête du MoonMan mythique.
